Hidden in the West MacDonnell Ranges, the Ochre Pits are a sacred Aboriginal site where vibrant ochre deposits have been mined for tens of thousands of years. The layered cliffs of white, yellow, red and purple ochre form a striking natural palette, used traditionally for body painting, rock art and ceremony. It’s a place of profound cultural significance and raw beauty, best appreciated with respect and quiet contemplation.
