North Stradbroke Island, known to locals as 'Straddie', is a laid-back sand island paradise just off the coast of Brisbane. With its dazzling white beaches, ancient sand dunes, and clear turquoise lakes, it feels a world away from the mainland. The island’s Indigenous Quandamooka people have lived here for thousands of years, and their deep connection to the land and sea enriches every visit. Whether you’re spotting humpback whales from the headland, swimming in a pristine lake, or exploring the island’s wild eastern surf beaches, Straddie rewards those who take their time.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan at least two full days to appreciate the island’s diversity. With a day you can hit the main sights at Point Lookout and Brown Lake, but a longer stay allows for a 4WD adventure to the eastern beaches, a kayak on the calm western side, or a guided cultural tour with a Quandamooka ranger. Many visitors extend to three or four nights, using the island as a base for day trips to Moreton Island or the mainland’s Gold Coast.
