Nestled in the shadow of Mount Gulaga on the NSW South Coast, Tilba Tilba is a tiny, time-warped village that feels like a living museum. Its main street is lined with beautifully preserved 19th-century timber buildings, now home to artisan galleries, a working dairy, and a famously good cheesery. This is a place where the pace slows to a crawl, the air smells of eucalyptus and salt, and every shopkeeper has a story to tell. It’s a perfect detour for travellers seeking authentic rural charm, local produce, and a glimpse of alternative, creative community life.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

You can easily see the village core and visit the cheesery in 1–2 hours, but to fully appreciate the arts scene and perhaps do a short walk on Mount Gulaga, allow a half-day. If you plan to hike to the summit of Gulaga (4–5 hours return), set aside a full day. Most visitors combine Tilba Tilba with a stop at nearby Narooma or Bermagui, making it a leisurely morning or afternoon detour.
