Mystery Bay

Mystery Bay is a pocket of pure coastal magic on the NSW South Coast, where a crescent of white sand meets a turquoise lagoon and the Pacific rollers crash just beyond a rocky headland. This isn't a place for crowds; it's for barefoot walks, picnics under the casuarinas, and paddling in the calm, shallow waters that make it a hit with families. The name hints at its past as a hideout for smugglers, but today the only treasures are the abundant birdlife, the sweep of the beach, and the simple joy of a near-empty stretch of sand.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Mystery Bay is a half-day or full-day escape. Most visitors spend 2–3 hours swimming, picnicking, and exploring the headland walk. If you're camping, you can easily fill a weekend with beach time, coastal walks, and sunset fishing. It's also a perfect lunch stop on a drive between Batemans Bay and Narooma – pack a picnic, as there are no shops on site.
