Wentworth Falls is a stunning waterfall in the Blue Mountains, plunging nearly 300 metres into the Jamison Valley. The dramatic escarpment setting, lush bushland, and network of walking trails make it a must-visit for nature lovers and hikers seeking spectacular views and a sense of wilderness just 90 minutes from Sydney.
Highlights & What to See
- The Grand Stairway Walk – Descend into the valley via 900-odd steps carved into the cliff face, passing the falls and offering jaw-dropping views. It’s challenging but immensely rewarding.
- Wentworth Falls Lookout – An easy 10-minute walk from the car park delivers a front-row seat to the waterfall and the vast valley beyond – perfect for sunrise or sunset photography.
- National Pass – A classic 4.5 km circuit that combines the Grand Stairway, the falls, and lush rainforest sections, with several lookouts along the way.
- Valley of the Waters – A series of smaller cascades and pools accessible via a short walk, ideal for a picnic or a refreshing dip in warmer months.
- Weeping Rock – A unique overhang where water seeps through the sandstone, creating a curtain-like effect – a great spot for a photo.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow a full half-day (3–4 hours) to properly experience the main walks and lookouts. If you’re up for the full National Pass circuit, budget 4–5 hours including breaks. For a quick visit, 1–2 hours lets you see the main lookout and the short walk to the top of the falls. Combine with a morning or afternoon at nearby Leura or Katoomba for a full day in the Blue Mountains.
