Thredbo is the ultimate year-round alpine playground in the heart of Kosciuszko National Park. With a genuine European village vibe, it offers world-class skiing in winter and spectacular hiking, mountain biking, and festivals in summer. The village is compact and walkable, with a lively après-ski scene and excellent dining options.
Highlights & What to See
- Skiing & Snowboarding: Thredbo boasts Australia’s longest ski runs and challenging terrain for all levels, plus a renowned ski school.
- Kosciuszko Express Chairlift: Ride the chairlift year-round for panoramic views; in summer it’s the gateway to the walk to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak.
- Walk to Mount Kosciuszko: A scenic 13 km return hike from the top of the chairlift offering sweeping alpine views and wildflowers in summer.
- Thredbo Valley Track: A multi-use trail perfect for mountain biking, walking, or trail running along the Thredbo River.
- Après-Ski & Dining: The village buzzes with lively bars like the Schuss Bar and restaurants serving everything from gourmet pizza to fine dining.
- Summer Activities: Mountain biking, golf, fishing, and the Thredbo Blues Festival or Jazz Festival draw crowds.
Suggested Time to Spend
For a ski trip, plan at least three to five days to make the most of the slopes and village atmosphere. In summer, two to three days are enough to tackle the Kosciuszko walk and enjoy the mountain biking trails. If you’re short on time, a day trip from Jindabyne is feasible, but staying overnight lets you soak up the alpine charm.
