Sea Cliff Bridge is one of New South Wales’ most dramatic coastal drives—a 665-metre-long cantilevered road that clings to the Illawarra escarpment, hugging the Pacific Ocean. Opened in 2005 to replace a landslide-prone section of the old Lawrence Hargrave Drive, the bridge offers breathtaking views of the ocean, dramatic cliffs, and the lush rainforest of the escarpment. It’s a must-do for road-trippers between Sydney and the South Coast, and a favourite spot for photographers, especially at sunrise or sunset.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

You can walk the bridge in about 20–30 minutes, but allow an hour or more if you’re stopping for photos, whale-watching, or exploring the rock pools. Most visitors spend 30–45 minutes here as part of a larger road trip. For the best experience, aim for late afternoon when the light turns golden and the crowds thin out.
