Ulladulla is a classic South Coast beach town where a working fishing harbour meets family-friendly beaches and a laid-back seaside vibe. Its name means 'safe harbour' in the local Aboriginal language, and that sense of shelter and ease still defines the place. The town makes an ideal stop on a Sydney-to-Melbourne road trip or a base for exploring the southern beaches and national parks.
Highlights & What to See
- Ulladulla Harbour & Breakwater – Watch fishing boats unload their daily catch, spot seals lounging on the rocks, and stroll the breakwater for panoramic ocean views. The harbour is also the departure point for whale-watching cruises (June–November).
- Ulladulla Lighthouse – Perched on Warden Head, this 1880s lighthouse offers a short walk with spectacular coastal vistas. It’s a prime spot for sunrise photography.
- Millions Beach & Rennies Beach – Two patrolled swimming beaches with golden sand and gentle waves. Rennies is popular with families; Millions has a rock pool and a grassy picnic area.
- Ulladulla Wildflower Reserve – A 10-minute walk through coastal heathland, bursting with native blooms in spring. Keep an eye out for kangaroos and echidnas.
- Milton Village – Just inland, this historic village is lined with galleries, antique shops, and cafes. Don’t miss the Milton Theatre and the famous Pilgrims Vegetarian Cafe.
Suggested Time to Spend
Two to three days is ideal. Spend your first day exploring the harbour and beaches; dedicate the second to a walk in the wildflower reserve and a visit to Milton. If you have a third day, consider a boat tour or a drive to nearby Pigeon House Mountain for a challenging hike with rewarding views. The town is compact, so you can easily pace yourself with a relaxed lunch at a harbourside cafe.
