Blue Gum Forest is a serene pocket of ancient eucalypt wilderness tucked within the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Walking among the towering blue gums—some over 60 metres tall—feels like stepping into a cathedral of bark and light. The forest is a must for hikers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a quiet escape from the coast. It's also a key stop on the multi-day Grose Valley trek, offering a genuine back-to-nature experience with its remote campground and abundant birdlife.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day hiking in and out from the nearby Perrys Lookdown or Pierces Pass trailheads. If you're camping, allow two days to fully explore the forest and side trails. For a relaxed visit, arrive early (parking is limited) and aim to be back at your car by late afternoon. The walk down into the valley is steep, so factor in extra time for the return climb.
