Red Centre Itinerary

The Red Centre is the beating heart of Australia’s outback, a landscape of ancient gorges, ochre-red dunes, and the iconic monolith Uluru. This itinerary strings together the essential experiences: from the fiery sunsets over Uluru to the eerie domes of Kata Tjuta and the rugged West MacDonnell Ranges. Self-driving is the best way to soak it all in, with sealed roads linking the main sights and plenty of roadside stops for photos.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow at least 5–7 days to cover the loop from Alice Springs to Uluru and back. Spend 2 days around Uluru-Kata Tjuta, 1 day at Kings Canyon, and 2 days exploring the West MacDonnells. The driving is manageable – about 4–5 hours between major stops – so you can pace each day with a morning walk and an afternoon drive. Add an extra day if you want to do longer hikes like the Larapinta Trail sections.
