Soaring three hundred metres above the desert floor, Kings Canyon is a magnificent natural amphitheatre carved from ancient sandstone. Part of the Watarrka National Park, this dramatic chasm offers some of the most rewarding hiking in the Red Centre. The sheer cliff walls, weathered into honeycombed domes, catch the shifting light from dawn to dusk, making every visit a visual feast.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors dedicate a full day to Kings Canyon, arriving early to tackle the Rim Walk before the midday heat. If you're short on time, the Kings Creek Walk can be done in under an hour. For a deeper experience, consider an overnight stay at Kings Canyon Resort, which allows you to catch both sunrise and sunset over the canyon.
