Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow at least three to four days to drive the 450-kilometre loop from Alice Springs. Most travellers spend one day exploring the West MacDonnell Ranges, a day at Kings Canyon, and a day to return via the quieter back roads. If you’re a keen hiker or fossil enthusiast, add an extra day for side trips and longer walks. The trail is best tackled between April and September when temperatures are cooler.
