Flinders Ranges National Park is a dramatic outback landscape of rust-red ridges, ancient gorges, and vast salt lakes, located in South Australia's Ikara-Flinders Ranges. This is one of Australia's most iconic inland parks, where the raw beauty of the arid interior meets rich Aboriginal heritage and pioneering history. The park's centrepiece is Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre of mountains that feels like a lost world. Whether you're hiking through Brachina Gorge, spotting yellow-footed rock-wallabies, or learning about the Adnyamathanha people's ancient stories, Flinders Ranges delivers a profound sense of place.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate at least two to three full days to experience the park's highlights without rushing. A common itinerary: Day 1 – drive the Brachina Gorge loop, stop at Arkaroo Rock, and explore the Wilpena Pound visitor centre. Day 2 – hike the Wilpena Pound Lookout trail in the morning (allow 3–4 hours) and drive Bunyeroo Gorge in the afternoon. Day 3 – take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound (30 minutes) or tackle the St Mary Peak hike (allow 6–8 hours). If you're short on time, one day can cover the main drive and a short walk, but you'll miss the deeper experience.
