Arriving at Ayers Rock Airport (AYQ) is your dramatic gateway to the red Centre. As you step onto the tarmac, the immense silhouette of Uluru shimmers on the horizon, immediately setting the tone for one of Australia's most profound outback experiences. This compact, modern airport is the sole commercial air hub for Yulara and the surrounding national parks, making it the seamless launchpad for your Red Centre adventure.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most travellers fly in and spend 2–3 full days in the region. The airport itself is small – allow 30 minutes for arrivals (baggage claim is quick) and 45 minutes for departures. If you're on a tight itinerary, a day trip is possible: fly in early morning, tour Uluru and Kata Tjuta, and catch a late flight out. But to truly absorb the desert light and culture, a two-night stay is ideal, giving you time for a sunrise base walk, a visit to the Cultural Centre, and an evening under the stars.
