With a population of just a few hundred, it's a quiet stop that packs a punch for history buffs and anyone curious about the Territory's gold rush past. The main street is lined with preserved stone buildings, and the surrounding bushland offers easy walks and birdwatching. It's a perfect short detour on the Stuart Highway, especially if you're heading between Katherine and Tennant Creek.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Pine Creek can be seen in a couple of hours, making it an ideal quick stop while driving the Stuart Highway. If you're keen on gold panning or want to do the walk, allow half a day. Most visitors spend 1–2 hours exploring the museum, temple, and main street before moving on. There's limited accommodation, so it's best treated as a day trip from Katherine.
