Douglas Daly

Douglas Daly is a ruggedly beautiful region in the Northern Territory, where the Daly River cuts through savannah woodlands and sandstone escarpments. It’s a place of serene waterholes, rich Indigenous heritage, and some of the Territory’s best barramundi fishing. This is the real outback – raw, quiet, and deeply connected to the land.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Two to three days is ideal to explore the river system, soak in the hot springs, and try your luck fishing. If you’re short on time, a day trip from Katherine (about 90 minutes’ drive) can cover the main highlights, but you’ll miss the early-morning stillness on the river. Plan to stay at one of the basic campgrounds or the Douglas Daly Tourist Park – the star-filled nights are worth it.
