Just a 90-minute drive from Darwin, Litchfield National Park feels like a wild, uncrowded alternative to Kakadu. This is the Top End at its most accessible: plunging waterfalls, crystal-clear swimming holes, and ancient termite mounds that look like a miniature city. The park’s compact size means you can experience its highlights in a day, but stay longer to truly soak up the serenity.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Two days is ideal – use the first day to explore the main waterfalls (Florence, Wanggi, Buley) and the termite mounds, then spend the second day hiking to less-visited spots like Tjaetaba Falls or the Lost City. If you’re short on time, a full day from Darwin is doable: leave early, swim at Buley and Florence, and stop at Wanggi for sunset. Overnight camping in the park is the best way to experience the bush at dawn and dusk.
