Stretching north from the mouth of Port Stephens, the Sunshine Coast Beaches offer a string of golden sands and rolling surf that feel a world away from the crowds of Sydney. These beaches are the backbone of the Port Stephens region, where you can spend days swimming, surfing, or simply soaking up the coastal vibe. The area is also a gateway to the Myall Lakes National Park, making it a perfect blend of beach and bush.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

To truly appreciate the Sunshine Coast Beaches, plan at least two to three days. Spend your first day exploring the main beaches from Birubi to Fingal, then dedicate a full day to the Myall Lakes for kayaking or bushwalking. A third day allows you to revisit your favorite spot or try surfing at One Mile Beach. The area is compact enough to base yourself in Nelson Bay or Shoal Bay and drive to each beach within 20 minutes.
