North Keppel Island

North Keppel Island is a pristine, undeveloped island in the Keppel Bay Islands National Park, just off the coast of Yeppoon in Central Queensland. With its fringing coral reefs, white sandy beaches, and dense hoop-pine forests, this island is a paradise for kayakers, campers, and nature lovers seeking a true off-grid escape. The island has no facilities, so you'll need to be fully self-sufficient — but the reward is utter solitude and some of the best snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef's southern edge.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors come for a day trip, but to truly appreciate the island's wild beauty, plan to stay 2–3 nights. Arrive by charter boat or kayak from Yeppoon (allow 30–45 minutes). Spend the first day setting up camp and snorkelling, the second day exploring the walking trails and paddling, and the final morning relaxing before your return. If you're only here for a few hours, focus on snorkelling at Monkey Beach and the short summit walk.
