Killcare is a serene coastal hamlet on the Bouddi Peninsula, offering a blissful escape from the crowds. With its pristine surf beach, lush national park, and laid-back vibe, this pocket of the Central Coast feels like a well-kept secret. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the morning swimming, the afternoon bushwalking, and the evening watching the sunset paint the sky over the ocean.
Highlights & What to See
- Killcare Beach – A stunning stretch of golden sand backed by bushland, perfect for swimming, surfing, or simply lazing under a beach umbrella. The waves are gentle enough for beginners, yet consistent enough to keep experienced surfers happy.
- Bouddi National Park – The park’s walking trails start right from the village. The Bouddi Coastal Walk is a highlight, offering dramatic clifftop views, secluded coves, and the chance to spot whales during migration season (May–November).
- Putty Beach – A short walk from Killcare, this sheltered beach is ideal for families and picnics. The rock platforms at the southern end are great for exploring tidal pools.
- Killcare Surf Life Saving Club – Grab a coffee or a meal at the club’s kiosk, which has a prime position overlooking the beach. It’s a local favourite for a casual bite.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors find that two days is the sweet spot for Killcare. Use the first day to settle in, hit the beach, and tackle a section of the Bouddi Coastal Walk. On the second day, explore the nearby villages of Pretty Beach and Wagstaffe, or simply repeat the beach-and-walk rhythm. If you’re short on time, a day trip from Sydney (just over an hour’s drive) is doable, but you’ll wish you’d stayed longer.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
- Pretty Beach – A neighbouring enclave with a calm, family-friendly beach and a well-stocked general store that makes a great lunch stop.
- Hardys Bay – A charming waterfront village with a popular café (Hardys Bay Café) and a boat ramp, perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding.
- Bouddi National Park (further exploration) – The park extends north to Maitland Bay and south to Gerrin Point, with plenty of walking tracks and picnic spots to discover.
- Avoca Beach – A larger, more developed beach town just south of Killcare, with a cinema, surf shops, and a lively café scene.
