Wallabi Point is a sleepy coastal hamlet just south of Old Bar, where the Manning River meets the sea. Its wild, windswept beach and headland offer a raw, untamed slice of the Mid North Coast that feels a world away from the busier resort towns. This is a place for solitary walks, whale watching, and connecting with the elements.
Highlights & What to See
- Wallabi Point Headland – A short walk from the car park leads to a lookout with sweeping views from Crowdy Head to Forster. In season (June–November), it’s a prime spot to watch humpback whales migrating past.
- Wallabi Beach – A long, patrolled stretch of sand that’s popular with surfers and families. The southern end is dog-friendly, so you can bring your four-legged friend for a run.
- Manning River Mouth – The confluence of the river and ocean creates a dynamic landscape of sandbars and lagoons. It’s excellent for birdwatching, especially at dawn and dusk.
- Old Bar Reserve – Just a few minutes’ drive north, this coastal reserve offers picnic tables, a playground, and access to a rock pool perfect for kids to splash in at low tide.
Suggested Time to Spend
Wallabi Point is best enjoyed as a half-day detour or a relaxed afternoon stop. Arrive in the late morning to walk the headland, have a picnic on the beach, and watch for whales. If you’re a surfer or keen photographer, you could easily while away a full day here. For a longer stay, book a holiday rental and use it as a peaceful base to explore the Manning Valley.
