Stretching along a pristine coastline just south of Port Macquarie, Seven Mile Beach National Park is a wild, windswept sanctuary of dunes, heathlands, and uninterrupted ocean views. This is the place to come for raw coastal beauty — no shops, no crowds, just the roar of the Tasman Sea and the rustle of coastal banksias.
Highlights & What to See
- Seven Mile Beach itself — a seemingly endless sweep of golden sand perfect for long walks, beach fishing, or simply watching the waves roll in. The beach is patrolled only at the main access point during peak season, so swim with care.
- Flynn's Beach — a sheltered cove at the northern end, popular with families and surfers catching gentle breaks.
- Coastal walking tracks — the 2.5 km Lighthouse Walk (return) leads to Tacking Point Lighthouse, a historic 1879 beacon offering panoramic views. Keep an eye out for migrating whales between June and November.
- Heathland wildflowers — in spring (August–October), the park bursts with colour: native peas, boronias, and orchids carpet the sand dunes.
- Birdwatching — spot oystercatchers, pied cormorants, and sea eagles along the shoreline and in the coastal scrub.
Suggested Time to Spend
Half a day is enough to soak up the park's highlights — take a morning walk along the beach, hike to Tacking Point Lighthouse, and enjoy a picnic among the dunes. If you're keen on fishing or a longer hike, allow a full day. The park is also a perfect quick stop (1–2 hours) if you're driving between Port Macquarie and Laurieton.
