Border Ranges National Park is a lush, ancient rainforest wilderness straddling the New South WalesQueensland border. Part of the Gondwana Rainforests World Heritage Area, this park is a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, and anyone awed by towering Antarctic beech trees, mossy boulders, and the haunting calls of Albert's lyrebirds. The drive up the winding Lions Road is an adventure in itself, with misty valleys and glimpses of the caldera rim.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day exploring the park's walks and lookouts. If you're short on time, combine the Antarctic Beech Walk (30 minutes) with a drive to Pinnacle Lookout (1 hour return hike). For a deeper experience, overnight camping at Sheepstation Creek allows for dawn and dusk wildlife spotting. The park is remote, so fuel up and bring supplies before arriving.
