Just north of Bundaberg, Mon Repos Turtle Rookery is one of the most significant nesting sites for loggerhead turtles in the South Pacific. Each summer, these ancient mariners haul themselves ashore to lay eggs, and later, tiny hatchlings scramble towards the ocean under the stars. It's a raw, deeply moving natural spectacle that draws visitors from around the world.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a full evening (from sunset to late night) during the nesting season. The guided tours last around 2–3 hours, but you'll want to arrive early to explore the Turtle Centre. If visiting outside turtle season (April–October), a daytime visit of 1–2 hours is enough to enjoy the centre and beach. For the best experience, book your turtle encounter in advance, as spaces fill quickly.
