Perched on a rocky headland just south of Port Macquarie, Tacking Point Lighthouse is one of Australia's oldest surviving lighthouses, built in 1879. This compact, whitewashed beacon offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and is a perfect stop for a coastal walk or a quiet picnic. The surrounding headland is a prime whale-watching spot during migration season (June–November), and the nearby beaches are popular with surfers and swimmers.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 30 minutes to an hour exploring the lighthouse and taking in the views. If you plan to walk the coastal trail or relax on the beach, allow at least 2–3 hours. Combine with a visit to Port Macquarie's town centre or other nearby attractions for a half-day outing.
