Iluka is a quiet coastal village at the northern entrance to the Clarence River, where the river meets the sea. It's the gateway to the stunning Yuraygir National Park and offers a laid-back escape with pristine beaches, rich Aboriginal heritage, and excellent fishing. The town's name means 'by the sea' in an Aboriginal language, and it delivers on that promise with a relaxed, uncrowded vibe.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Iluka works well as a half-day stop if you're driving the Pacific Highway, but to fully appreciate its natural beauty, spend a full day. Start with a walk in the Iluka Nature Reserve (30 minutes), then head to the Bluff for views, followed by a swim at the patrolled beach in summer. After lunch, explore Yuraygir National Park on a short hike like the Iluka to Woody Head walk (2–3 hours one way). If you're a keen fisher or birdwatcher, consider an overnight stay.
