The Coffs Harbour Jetty is the historic heart of this coastal city, a working harbour where fishing trawlers bob beside pleasure craft and the smell of salt and fish hangs in the air. The iconic timber jetty, rebuilt after storms, stretches into the Pacific and offers front-row seats for dolphin-spotting at sunset. This is a place to slow down, eat fresh seafood, and feel the pulse of a genuine Australian port community.
Highlights & What to See
- The Jetty Strip – A promenade lined with cafés, fish-and-chip shops and boutiques. Grab a coffee and watch the boats come and go.
- Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve – Walk the breakwater to this rocky island, home to thousands of wedge-tailed shearwaters. The views back over the harbour are spectacular, especially at dusk when the birds return to their burrows.
- Dolphin Marine Conservation Park – See rescued dolphins and seals in a rehabilitation setting. It’s educational, with a strong focus on marine welfare.
- Jetty Beach – A sheltered, patrolled beach perfect for families, with calm waters and soft sand right next to the harbour action.
- The Jetty Markets – Held on the first and third Sunday of each month, these markets buzz with local produce, handmade crafts and live music.
Suggested Time to Spend
Half a day is ideal – enough time to stroll the strip, visit Muttonbird Island (allow 1–1.5 hours for the walk and wildlife watching), and enjoy a leisurely seafood lunch. If you want to add the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park, budget another 2 hours. The jetty is also a lovely spot for a sunset wander, so you could easily stretch it into a relaxed afternoon-to-evening stop.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
- Coffs Harbour Botanic Garden – A lush, free garden with rainforest, mangroves and a treetop walk, just a short drive from the jetty.
