Yarrawonga

Yarrawonga is a sleepy, sunbaked hamlet in the lower Hunter Valley, where the landscape shifts from rolling vineyards to wide-open cattle country. With its handful of heritage buildings, a classic country pub, and the mighty Murray River lapping at its edge, this is a place to slow down and soak up the unhurried rhythms of rural New South Wales. It's less about ticking sights off a list and more about sinking into a deckchair with a cold drink as the river glides by.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Yarrawonga is a classic overnight stop – arrive in the afternoon, enjoy a riverside stroll and a pub dinner, and move on the next morning. If you're keen on water sports or fishing, two nights allow a full day on the lake. The town is small enough that you can see its main sights in a couple of hours, but the real pleasure is in doing very little by the river.
