Wingham Brush Nature Reserve is a pocket of ancient subtropical rainforest on the banks of the Manning River, a short stroll from the historic town of Wingham. This 8-hectare reserve is a living museum of towering figs, cabbage tree palms and giant stinging trees, with a raised boardwalk that lets you wander through the canopy without disturbing the delicate ecosystem. It’s a serene, bird-filled escape that feels a world away from the coast.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 30–45 minutes for the boardwalk loop, plus extra time if you plan to linger at the river lookout or explore Wingham’s cafes. The reserve is best visited in the morning or late afternoon when the light filters through the canopy and bird activity is highest. If you’re keen to see the flying foxes depart, arrive about 30 minutes before sunset.
