Red Hill

Perched on the eastern edge of the Hunter Valley, Red Hill is a serene wine-country escape that rewards travellers with sweeping views over the Brokenback Range and some of the region’s most prestigious cellar doors. This pocket of the Hunter feels quieter and more intimate than the tourist bustle around Pokolbin, yet it’s home to a handful of standout wineries, excellent dining, and a landscape that begs to be explored on foot or by bike.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Red Hill is best savoured over a full day – arrive mid-morning for a tasting at a couple of cellar doors, break for a long lunch at a winery restaurant, then spend the afternoon exploring the lookout and a few more producers. If you’re pairing it with other Hunter Valley stops, half a day is enough to hit the highlights, but you’ll wish you’d stayed longer. Many visitors tack Red Hill onto a two- or three-night Hunter Valley itinerary, basing themselves in Pokolbin or nearby Cessnock.
