Rawson Falls

Hidden deep in the Barrington Tops National Park, Rawson Falls is a breathtaking cascade that plunges 30 metres into a mossy amphitheatre of ancient Antarctic beech and rainforest. The journey to the falls is as rewarding as the destination, winding through lush temperate jungle alive with lyrebirds and the constant murmur of the Williams River. This is a place for serious nature lovers — the track is unsealed and requires a high-clearance 4WD, but the reward is one of the most pristine and private swimming holes in the Hunter Valley region. Pack a picnic and prepare for a day of wild immersion.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least half a day, including the drive from the Hunter Valley floor. The walk from the car park is only about 20 minutes each way, but you'll want to linger for a swim, a picnic and plenty of photography. If you're a keen bushwalker, add another hour to explore the connecting trails along the Williams River. Best visited between November and April when the water flow is strong and the weather is warm, though autumn offers stunning foliage colour.
