Mogo Village is a charming historic settlement just south of Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast. Once a gold-mining hub, today it's a delightful cluster of heritage buildings housing artisan shops, galleries, and cafés, all set among eucalypt forests and rolling hills. It's a perfect pit stop for travellers exploring the coast or heading inland.
Highlights & What to See
- Mogo Goldrush Town – A recreated 1850s gold-mining precinct where you can pan for gold, explore a mine tunnel, and buy gemstones from around the world. It's part museum, part souvenir emporium, and great fun for families.
- Artisan Galleries & Boutiques – The main street is lined with craft shops selling pottery, Aboriginal art, leather goods, and local honey. Don't miss Mogo Wood Gallery for handcrafted furniture and homewares.
- Mogo Zoo – A small, award-winning zoo with a focus on conservation. You can see white lions, snow leopards, and red pandas in naturalistic enclosures, plus feed giraffes and walk with lemurs.
- Mogo Maze – A hedge maze set in a beautiful garden, with puzzles and a lookout tower offering views over the village.
- Heritage Walk – Stroll past original miners' cottages, the old post office, and the historic Mogo School of Arts hall. Interpretive signs tell the story of the village's gold-rush past.
Suggested Time to Spend
Half a day is ideal for Mogo Village – enough time to browse the shops, visit the Goldrush Town, and enjoy a coffee or lunch at one of the cafés. If you plan to include Mogo Zoo, allow a full day, as the zoo is about 3 km south of the village. Most visitors combine Mogo with a stop on a coastal road trip between Sydney and Melbourne, or as a day trip from Batemans Bay (10 minutes south).
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
