Bylong

Bylong is a sleepy valley in the upper Hunter region, where the Great Dividing Range meets rural farmland. It’s the kind of place you stumble upon on a backroad drive and instantly feel the pace slow. The Bylong Valley Way, a scenic route between the Hunter Valley and Mudgee, cuts right through it, offering long views of patchwork paddocks and wooded hills. This is not a tourist hub; it’s a breather, a place to stop for a coffee at the general store, chat with a local, and soak in genuine countryside character.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Bylong itself is a quick stop – an hour for a coffee and a stroll. But the Bylong Valley Way is best savoured as a half-day drive (allow 2–3 hours from Denman to Rylstone, with photo stops). If you’re keen on bushwalking in Wollemi National Park, add a full day. Most travellers pass through on a self-drive itinerary linking the Hunter Valley wine region to Mudgee.
