Border Ranges National Park

Straddling the rim of an ancient shield volcano, Border Ranges National Park is a lush, mist-shrouded wilderness that feels a world away from the Hunter Valley's vineyards. Here, subtropical rainforest meets cool temperate pockets, and the air is thick with the sound of birdsong and the scent of damp earth. This is a place for those who want to trade wine for waterfalls, and cellar doors for canopy walks.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

You can get a taste of the park in a half-day, focusing on the Antarctic Beech Walk and Pinnacle Lookout. However, to fully appreciate the trails and soak in the serene atmosphere, plan for a full day. Pack a picnic and plenty of water – there are no facilities inside the park. The best time to visit is during the cooler months (April to September) when the weather is mild and leeches are less active.
