Straddling the roof of Victoria, Alpine National Park is a sprawling wilderness of snow-capped peaks, wildflower-strewn meadows, and thundering rivers. It’s a place where you can hike through ancient snow gum forests, soak in natural hot springs, and spot kangaroos and wombats against a backdrop of jagged granite outcrops. This is the Australian high country at its most dramatic – a must for hikers, skiers, and anyone craving an alpine escape.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Give yourself at least two to three days to do the park justice. A long weekend allows for a summit hike on Mount Bogong, a day exploring the Bogong High Plains, and a soak in the natural hot springs at Dinner Plain. If you’re skiing, a week is ideal to hit the slopes at Falls Creek or Mount Hotham. For a quick taste, a day trip from Bright or Mount Beauty can cover a short walk and scenic drive, but you’ll want more.
