Winding through the lush Yarra Valley, the Warburton Rail Trail is a scenic 38-kilometre rail-trail that follows the old Yarra Valley railway line from Lilydale to Warburton. This mostly flat, sealed path is perfect for cycling, walking, and horse-riding, offering a gentle journey through farmlands, towering mountain ash forests, and alongside the Yarra River. The trail is a favourite for families and nature lovers, with plenty of spots to stop for a picnic or a swim in the river.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow a full day for the whole trail if you're cycling (3–4 hours of riding plus breaks) or split it over two days for a leisurely trip. Walkers can tackle sections – the Lilydale to Healesville stretch (14 km) is a popular half-day walk. For a relaxed experience, combine the ride with a lunch stop in Warburton or a visit to a local winery.
