Springbrook National Park, a lush World Heritage-listed rainforest plateau, offers a dramatic escape into ancient Gondwana landscapes. Just a short drive from the Gold Coast, this park is a haven for hikers and nature lovers, with cascading waterfalls, panoramic lookouts, and some of Australia's most pristine subtropical and temperate rainforests.
Highlights & What to See
- Best of All Lookout – An easy 600-metre walk leads to a breathtaking viewpoint over the Tweed Valley and Mount Warning, especially magical at sunrise.
- Natural Bridge – A stunning rock arch formed by a waterfall, with a glowworm cave at its base. Visit after dark to see the twinkling lights of the glowworms.
- Purling Brook Falls – A spectacular 100-metre waterfall that plunges into a deep gorge. The circuit walk takes you behind the falls for a refreshing drenching.
- Warrie Circuit – A challenging 17-kilometre loop through rainforest, past several waterfalls and swimming holes. Allow 5–6 hours for this rewarding hike.
- Antarctic Beech Trees – In the park's higher elevations, find ancient, moss-draped beech trees that are living relics from the supercontinent Gondwana.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors explore Springbrook National Park in a full day, which allows time for two or three short walks and a picnic lunch. If you're keen on the longer Warrie Circuit or want to see the glowworms at Natural Bridge after dusk, plan for a day and a half. The park is also a popular stop on a self-drive itinerary between Sydney and Brisbane, fitting neatly into a half-day detour from the Gold Coast.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Gold Coast Hinterland – Quaint villages like Tamborine Mountain, known for wineries, galleries, and craft markets.
- Byron Bay – A laid-back coastal town with stunning beaches, a vibrant food scene, and the iconic Cape Byron lighthouse.
