Mount Donna Buang, rising 1250 metres in the Yarra Ranges, is a cool-climate escape beloved by Melburnians for its ferny rainforest, snow in winter, and panoramic views from the summit tower. This is the closest snow play destination to Melbourne, but outside winter it’s a serene bushwalking haven with towering mountain ash and tree ferns.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Half a day is sufficient to drive up, do the Rainforest Circuit, climb the lookout tower, and enjoy a picnic. If you want to walk longer trails like the 10 km Donna Buang to Mount Victoria walk, allow a full day. In winter, factor in extra time for slow driving and snow play – it can get busy on weekends.
