Kingscliff is a relaxed coastal town on the Tweed Coast, just south of the Queensland border. While it's not in the Hunter Valley, its name often appears in itineraries for travellers exploring the broader NSW north coast. With a stunning patrolled beach, a friendly village atmosphere, and a string of excellent cafes and restaurants, Kingscliff offers a perfect seaside break. The town's main street, Marine Parade, runs parallel to the beach, lined with Norfolk pines and a mix of boutiques and eateries.
Highlights & What to See
- Kingscliff Beach – A long, wide stretch of golden sand ideal for swimming, surfing, and long walks. The southern end is patrolled in summer.
- Cudgen Nature Reserve – A protected coastal rainforest with a short boardwalk loop, perfect for spotting water dragons and birdlife.
- Kingscliff Foreshore – A grassy park with picnic tables, playground, and a popular Sunday farmers market selling local produce and crafts.
- Surfing at Kingscliff – Consistent waves for all levels; beginners can take lessons at the main beach, while more experienced surfers head to the nearby break at Duranbah Beach.
- Kingscliff Bowls Club – A classic Aussie lawn bowls club with a casual restaurant and stunning ocean views – great for a cold beer and a game of barefoot bowls.
Suggested Time to Spend
Kingscliff is best as a one- to two-night stopover, allowing you to fully enjoy the beach and local dining. If you're short on time, a half-day visit is enough for a swim, a walk along the foreshore, and a meal at one of the cafes. For a more relaxed pace, base yourself here for two nights and explore the nearby National Parks and the Tweed Valley hinterland.
