Huskisson is a laid-back seaside village on the southern shores of Jervis Bay, famous for its blindingly white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. This is where you come to swim with wild dolphins, kayak past sea caves, and eat fish and chips with your toes in the sand. The town’s relaxed vibe, excellent cafés, and easy access to Booderee National Park make it a perfect stop on a New South Wales coastal road trip.
Highlights & What to See
- Hyams Beach – Guinness World Record holder for whitest sand in the world; arrive early to beat the crowds and swim in impossibly clear water.
- Dolphin & whale cruises – Jervis Bay is home to a resident population of bottlenose dolphins; winter brings migrating humpbacks.
- Booderee National Park – Aboriginal-owned park with dramatic coastal cliffs, secluded beaches like Murrays Beach, and excellent bushwalks to the Cape St George Lighthouse ruins.
- Jervis Bay Marine Park – Snorkel or kayak among pristine seagrass beds and reef systems; the calm bay waters are ideal for beginners.
- Huskisson to Vincentia coastal walk – A gentle 5 km (return) trail with panoramic ocean views, picnic spots, and whale-watching lookouts.
Suggested Time to Spend
Huskisson is best enjoyed over two full days. Spend the first day exploring Hyams Beach and Booderee National Park; on the second day, take a morning dolphin cruise and then paddle a kayak around the bay. If you only have one day, prioritise the cruise and a swim at Hyams Beach – you’ll still leave with the sense of having discovered something special.
