Perched on the northern headland of Palm Beach, Barrenjoey Lighthouse is a striking sandstone beacon that has guided ships along the New South Wales coast since 1881. The short but steep climb rewards you with panoramic views over the glittering Tasman Sea, Pittwater, and the lush Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. It’s a classic Sydney day trip that combines history, coastal scenery, and a touch of adventure.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow at least half a day for a visit. The walk up to the lighthouse takes about 20–30 minutes each way, plus time to explore the lighthouse and soak in the views. Combine with a swim or lunch at Palm Beach, and you can easily fill 3–4 hours. If you’re keen on hiking further in Ku-ring-gai Chase, plan for a full day.
