Yerranderie is a hauntingly beautiful ghost town tucked away in the rugged Blue Mountains hinterland, once a thriving silver-mining settlement in the early 1900s. Today, its eerie ruins, silent streets, and wild bushland setting offer a unique blend of history and solitude for adventurous travellers. Reached via a scenic 4WD track or a challenging bushwalk, Yerranderie feels like a forgotten world, with the remains of the town’s pub, post office, and cottages slowly being reclaimed by the eucalypt forest.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a full day trip from the Blue Mountains or Oberon, but to truly soak in the atmosphere and explore the caves, stay overnight at the Yerranderie Private Camping Area (basic facilities only). If you’re hiking in, allow 2–3 days to connect with the Kanangra-Boyd wilderness loop. Most visitors arrive by 4WD (high clearance recommended) and spend 4–6 hours exploring the town and nearby trails.
