Stretching across the wheat-belt of western Victoria, the Wimmera Silo Art Trail is one of Australia’s most spectacular open-air galleries. Massive grain silos have been transformed into towering canvases by world-renowned street artists, celebrating local stories, farmers, and native wildlife. Driving this trail offers a quintessential outback experience with a creative twist.
Highlights & What to See
- Brim Silo – The trail’s most iconic artwork by Guido van Helten, featuring a hauntingly realistic portrait of four local farmers. Best viewed in the late afternoon light.
- Sheep Hills Silo – A vibrant, dreamlike mural by Adnate depicting a young Indigenous girl and a sheep, blending cultural heritage with pastoral life.
- Rosebery Silo – Painted by Rone, this piece captures the weathered face of a local elder, with subtle details that reveal themselves up close.
- Patchewollock Silo – A striking portrait of a farmer in a wide-brimmed hat by Guido van Helten, set against the endless blue sky.
- Lascelles Silo – Kaff-eine’s mural of a young girl holding a lamb, surrounded by native flora – a poignant symbol of hope and renewal.
- Rupanyup Silo – A dramatic depiction of a netball player in motion by Julia Volchkova, celebrating the town’s sporting spirit.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow a full day to drive the entire 200-kilometre loop, stopping at each silo for photos and a short walk. Start early from Horsham or Warracknabeal to catch the best light and avoid midday heat. If you’re a keen photographer, two days will let you capture sunrise and sunset shots without rushing.
