Stretching from the edge of the Sydney Opera House to the Domain and Woolloomooloo, the Royal Botanic Garden is a green sanctuary in the heart of the city. Established in 1816, it's Australia's oldest botanic garden and a living museum of plant life from around the world. Wander along harbour-side paths, discover themed gardens, and soak up spectacular views of the harbour and skyline.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Set aside at least 1–2 hours for a leisurely stroll through the main gardens. If you want to explore the Calyx, the herb garden, and take in the harbour views at Mrs Macquarie's Chair, plan for half a day. Combine with a visit to the nearby Sydney Opera House or the Art Gallery of New South Wales for a full day out.
