Orpheus Island is a secluded slice of paradise in the Great Barrier Reef, offering world-class snorkeling, pristine beaches, and a sense of complete escape. Accessible only by boat or helicopter, this continental island is part of the Palm Islands group and is fringed by coral reefs teeming with marine life. The island's national park covers most of its area, with walking trails leading to granite boulder formations and stunning viewpoints. With just one luxury resort and a research station, Orpheus feels wonderfully remote.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors stay 3–5 nights to fully unwind and explore the reef and walks. Day trips are possible from Townsville or Magnetic Island, but the journey (1.5–2 hours by boat) makes an overnight stay far more rewarding. A week allows for lazy beach days, multiple snorkel sessions, and a summit hike without rushing.
