Lord Howe Island is a pristine, crescent-shaped paradise in the Tasman Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage site that feels worlds away from mainland Australia. With a strict visitor cap of 400 at any time, it offers an exclusive, low-impact escape where towering palm forests, turquoise lagoons, and dramatic volcanic peaks create a landscape of breathtaking beauty. This is a place for hikers, snorkelers, and anyone who craves unspoiled nature and genuine tranquility.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors stay for a minimum of 5 to 7 days to truly appreciate the island’s offerings. A week allows time for the challenging Mount Gower hike, several days of snorkelling and beach time, a boat tour to the Admiralty Islands, and leisurely exploration of the island’s walking trails. The pace is relaxed – you can cycle everywhere, and there’s no rush. If you have only 3 days, focus on the lagoon, Ned’s Beach, and one shorter hike like Mount Eliza or Transit Hill.
