Little Beach
Tucked away on the Bouddi Peninsula, Little Beach is a pocket-sized paradise of soft white sand and crystalline waters, sheltered by lush bushland. It feels less like a public beach and more like a secret cove you've stumbled upon — the kind of place where you can hear yourself think between the gentle lapping of waves. The short walk from the car park through coastal scrub adds to the sense of discovery, and once you're on the sand, it's easy to see why this is a favourite among locals who prefer their swimming spots uncrowded and unpretentious.
Highlights & What to See
- Snorkel the Bouddi Aquatic Reserve: The clear, calm waters at Little Beach are part of a protected marine reserve. Grab a mask and you'll likely see schools of bream, wobbegong sharks dozing on the sand, and maybe even a blue grouper cruising by.
- Walk the Bouddi Coastal Walk: This spectacular 8 km track passes right above Little Beach. The section between Putty Beach and MacMasters Beach offers clifftop views, wildflowers in spring, and several lookouts perfect for whale-watching (May–November).
- Kayak or SUP from the beach: The sheltered bay is ideal for stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking. You can paddle to the nearby caves or simply float and take in the green hills that frame the cove.
- Picnic under the casuarinas: There are a few picnic tables and barbecues tucked among the trees. Grab a spot early on weekends — it's a popular lunch stop for walkers and families.
- Explore the Bouddi National Park: Beyond the beach, the park offers bushwalks, Aboriginal heritage sites (including middens), and the historic Bouddi Farm ruins. Keep an eye out for lyrebirds and wallabies.
Suggested Time to Spend
Little Beach is a perfect half-day escape. Arrive mid-morning to snag a parking spot (the lot is small), spend a couple of hours swimming and snorkelling, then tackle a section of the Bouddi Coastal Walk — say, to Maitland Bay or back via the Bouddi Ridge Trail. If you're combining it with other Central Coast spots, you could easily make a full day of it: start here, then head to the nearby galleries or cafés in Killcare or Hardys Bay for a late lunch. For a more relaxed pace, pack a picnic and stay until the afternoon shadows lengthen across the sand.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
- Bouddi National Park — the park's other beaches (Putty Beach, Maitland Bay) and lookouts are just a short drive or walk away
- Killcare Beach & Hardys Bay — a string of calm, family-friendly beaches with a laid-back village vibe and waterside cafés
- Avoca Beach — a more developed surf beach with a lively café scene, a cinema, and rock pools to explore
- Terrigal — the Central Coast's hub for dining and nightlife, with a long beach, the iconic Skillion lookout, and the Terrigal Lagoon
- Gosford & the Brisbane Water National Park — for a change of scenery, head inland to the historic town of Gosford and the park's Aboriginal rock engravings at Bulgandry
