Ku Ring Gai Chase National Park

Just north of Sydney, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is a breathtaking tapestry of sandstone cliffs, tranquil estuaries, and ancient Aboriginal rock art. This is where the Hawkesbury River meets the sea, creating a wild, water-laced landscape that feels a world away from the city. Whether you’re paddling a kayak through the calm waters of Cowan Creek, hiking to a lookout that sweeps over the Broken Bay, or standing before a 2000-year-old rock engraving, this park offers a deep, quiet connection to Australia’s natural and cultural heritage.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

To truly appreciate the park, plan a full day. Start with a morning walk to West Head Lookout and the nearby Aboriginal engravings, then head down to Resolute Beach for a swim. After a picnic lunch at Bobbin Head, spend the afternoon kayaking or exploring the mangroves. If you have only half a day, focus on the West Head area – the lookout, the engravings, and a short beach walk – and leave the water activities for another visit. Overnight camping is available at The Basin, which allows you to experience the park’s serene dawn and dusk wildlife.
