Fitzroy Falls

Thundering into a fern-filled gorge, Fitzroy Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Southern Highlands. A short, easy walk from the car park leads to a series of lookouts that offer breathtaking views of the 81-metre drop and the wild, eucalypt-clad valley beyond. The mist from the falls nourishes a lush pocket of rainforest, where lyrebirds and crimson rosellas flit among the tree ferns. It's a perfect stop for self-drivers exploring the scenic country roads between Sydney and Canberra.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Half a day is ideal: spend 1–2 hours on the main lookouts and a short walk, then enjoy a picnic. If you're keen to hike, allow 3–4 hours for the full West Rim circuit. The falls are impressive year-round, but spring (September–November) brings wildflowers and the most reliable water flow.
