Perched on the sapphire edge of Twofold Bay, Eden is a salty, soulful harbour town where the bush meets the deep blue. This is whaling history, killer-whale legends, and some of the finest seafood on the NSW Sapphire Coast. You’ll feel the ocean in your bones here – from the morning mist over the bay to the sight of migrating humpbacks breaching offshore. It’s a place to slow down, breathe in the kelp-scented air, and reconnect with the wild.
Highlights & What to See
- Killer Whale Museum – A fascinating tribute to the unique bond between local whalers and a pod of orcas known as the 'Killers of Eden'. The skeleton of Old Tom, the legendary leader, is the centrepiece.
- Ben Boyd National Park – Dramatic sea cliffs, lightstation ruins, and the hauntingly beautiful Pinnacles. Hike the Light to Light Walk or spot whales from the headlands.
- Eden Wharf & Seafood – Grab fish and chips or a platter of local oysters at the wharf while watching fishing boats bob in the harbour. The tuna and rock lobster are world-class.
- Twofold Bay – Kayak, sail or cruise this deep natural harbour. In winter, humpback and southern right whales shelter here – you can see them from the shore.
- Aslings Beach – A sweeping curve of white sand perfect for a morning swim or a sunset stroll. The northern end is dog-friendly.
Suggested Time to Spend
Two full days is ideal – one for the museum and town, another for exploring Ben Boyd National Park and the coastline. If you’re on a road trip, you can cover the highlights in a single overnight stop, but you’ll be tempted to linger. Morning is best for whale watching (May–November); afternoons are for seafood and a lazy beach walk.
